Europe; -- so called because the spotted appearance of the leaves
resembles that of a diseased lung.
n. Any plant of the genus Mertensia (esp. M. Virginica and
M. Sibirica) plants nearly related to Pulmonaria. The American lungwort
is Mertensia Virginica, Virginia cowslip.
